ABOUT IYENGAR YOGA

Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar (1918-2014) in India, this is a yoga practice which focuses on precision and alignment with time spent exploring each asana (posture). Props eg, bolsters, blocks, chairs etc. are often used, to enable students to understand and access the postures without over straining the body.

Iyengar teachers have to complete a rigorous two year mentorship to become introductory teachers. In order to be accepted on to the teacher training programme students need to have been attending Iyengar yoga classes for a minimum of 3 years, to be competent in the basic asanas and have a good understanding of the yoga system.
