Yoga is a system with which life can be approached.
The most well-known aspect of yoga is the physical practice, called the asana practice. This is one of the eight limbs of yoga, with the other seven including: external restraints/ internal restrains/ breath, energy work/ sense withdrawal/ concentration/ meditation leading finally to enlightenment.
The practice of asanas is intended to help to still the mind. It can help build strength and flexibility but its main purpose is to help us manage the mind. The asana practice can vary hugely, from an intense physical experience to a very gentle one. Some styles focus on alignment and move slowly or are stationary, others focus more on movement linked to the breath and can move quickly.
