SUMMARY:Poetry workshop - Writing awake to times of Crisis - April
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]\n	Book workshop\n	\n	[vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]To achieve clarity and speak to the times we are living in\, it helps to be grounded in the present moment and our lived experience. \n‘Poetry is an act of attention. It asks us to look again and more \nclosely at things in the world. It wants to be beautiful as\nlanguage\, as performance\, but it wants to do something\nin the world’ \n– Kimberly Blaeser (Ojibwe) \nJoin us in a supportive and nourishing space\, as we take action by paying attention — reading and writing in response to what is going on around us\, close by and far away. There is much to cherish\, and much to strive to change\, and poetry is uniquely placed to reflect and shed light on the situation we find ourselves in. \nThis workshop is open to new and experienced writers of poetry\, and anyone who is curious about writing as expression and discovery. \nSessions last two and a half hours with a break.\nPlease bring something to write on. \n£35 \nAbout Shazea Quraishi \nShazea is a Pakistani-born Canadian poet\, translator and educator based in Brixton. She has taught for over 20 years\, with organisations including the Poetry School\, Arvon\, The Poetry Society\, Translators in Schools\, English PEN\, Exiled Writers and more. SUMMARY:Workshop: introduction to backbends
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]\n	Book workshop\n	\n	[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Introduction to Backbends – Overcoming fear and finding balance. \nNina will lead this workshop to introduce and develop backbends. \nNot suitable for absolute beginners; you should have a reasonable level of fitness and regular asana practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur body’s natural response to danger is to curl in\, protecting our most vulnerable part – our heart\, both the physical heart and the energetic heart space (anahata). Backbends do the very opposite action opening us up to the world. We are exposing ourselves and that takes courage – but also builds more of it! Overcoming our fears on the mat can give us courage off the mat too. \nAnahata is the center of compassion\, and a positive balance in the heart chakra cultivates sensitivity and unconditional love for self and others. \nOur spines are an incredible combination of strength and flexibility – of Sthira and Sukha. \nPracticing backbends can open up the front body\, increase your hip flexibility\, and improve the mobility of your lumbar and thoracic spine. \nBackbends are invigorating and strengthening. They stretch the quads and hip flexors and help open up the shoulders and chest\, an area where lots of us hold tension. They build strength and power in the legs\, arms and back muscles.  Also\, they can teach us to embrace vulnerabilities and build resilience. \nWe will cover beginner to intermediate asanas; using props\, assists and fun drills to explore key backbend postures safely. \n\nBhujangurasana/Cobra & Urdhva Mukha Savasana/Upward Facing Dog\nSalabhasana/Locust & Dhanurasana/Bow\nSupta Virasana/Saddle & Ustrasana/Camel\nSetu Bandha Sarvangasana/Bridge & Urdvha Dhanurasana/Wheel\n\nWe will finish off with a Metta Bhavana\, meditation of loving kindness. \nCome and join me for a fun exploration of opening the body\, heart & mind \n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Yin Yoga Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]\n	Book Workshop\n	\n	[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nYin Yoga Workshop with Nina\nFinding Connection\, Revealing truth\n\nThe World in its current climate seems far away from peace\, community and oneness. It may be hard to find comfort or connection when there is so much fear and discourse.  We cannot bypass this with platitudes or “love and light”\, but we can explore how Yoga principles and practice can help us balance and find resilience amongst chaos.  The courage to live with authentic action (karma) and seek truth (satya). \nYin yoga offers time for silent reflection. The practice is suitable for all levels of yoga practitioner. Lying and seated poses are held for a longer period of time allowing the body to move gently into deeper stretches. We can let go of any striving and connect to our inner experience. \nThis practice supports good health by massaging the deep connective tissues that conduct vital energy throughout the whole body. This combination of deep stretching and silent reflection work well together to both stimulate and calm the physical body; rebalance the energy body and cultivate psychological resilience. \nTo complement this we will continue to reveal our deeper motivations through Sankalpa – a powerful practice of setting a positive and affirmative intention aligned with one’s true purpose to manifest change and transformation.  So\, similar to a resolution\, but aligned to your yogic practice through the 8 Limbs.  The Sankalpa’s effect is to awaken the willpower within by uniting the conscious awareness with the unconscious forces lying dormant. \nSan = connection with truth       Kalpa = vow   \nThe workshop includes:  \n\nSankalpa – intention\nPranayama/Pratyhara – preparation\nThe Asana – connection\nMeditation – absorption\n\nWe finish off with a Metta Bhavana\, meditation of loving kindness. \nCome and join me and explore opening the body\, heart & mind.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Join Suhad for a Somatic movement exploration to inquire into how we might reclaim or repattern something of a very early pre-vertebral development – the very point around which our initial sense of centre and organisation started to form a blueprint towards our being. \nIn a world that often feels saturated with choices and information\, finding our centre and aligning with who we are at our core can be a challenging task. This somatic workshop explores differentiating body parts\, and integrating them into our sense of whole. \nWe will inquire into:  \nThrough deep listening to our internal movement\, sensing and feeling\, we will explore the Naval Radiation (Starfish) movement pattern and uncover ways that support us in navigating both our internal and external ways of being. \nHow can we initiate movement from our Naval working with our inner sensations towards an outward expression\, radiating from our deep sense of knowing? \nWe will explore and deepen our  embodiment of early pre-vertebrate patterns\, understanding their embryological roots and gently meeting any areas where movement has become limited or restricted. \nYou would be able to work with themes that support your inquiries and curiosity around: \nHow do you currently navigate the internal and external world? What do you orient towards when overwhelmed or pulled in multiple directions? What are the strategies you’ve developed for being in the world and staying safe? \nSuhad will guide you through exploring how to cultivate a sense of centred presence – both inwardly and outwardly. These workshops are opportunities to explore your Soma (the body experienced from within)\, deepen your understanding of your needs\, and develop an inner witness to your kinaesthetic\, proprioceptive\, interoceptive\, and tactile experiences. You will also have the option to integrate your experiences through journaling or drawing\, fostering a deeper connection to your embodied self. \nThrough this safe and supportive space\, you will learn how to listen to the symphony of sensory messages\, impulses to move\, images. Suhad will draw on themes of: self and others\, content and container\, Infant movement patterns (Basic Neurocellular Patterns) to support the shift from fragmentation to integration and well-being. \nWho is this for?  \nThese workshops are accessible to all bodies: individuals seeking to deepen their connection with their body’s innate wisdom.  Individuals seeking a gentle and embodied approach to movement and healing. Those experiencing chronic health conditions\, autoimmune disorders\, or Long Covid. This is the cellular state – a place of inherent wisdom and potential\, shared by all organisms. When our cells are in harmony\, our organs and entire body function optimally. However\, imbalances at the cellular level can manifest as disharmony\, disease\, and a pervasive sense of dis-ease. \nA Personal Journey to Healing: Suhad’s passion for this work stems from her own profound experience of recovery from Long Covid during the pandemic. Through somatic movement\, she discovered the power of reconnecting with the cellular state to restore balance and vitality. \n\nWhat to Expect: This workshop offers a gentle and inclusive approach to movement\, facilitating through an inquiry about resourcing\, deep rest and vitality\, and welcoming all bodies regardless of physical or emotional limitations. This practice is designed to support you in connecting with your body’s current state and deepen your relationship to your lived experience through the body and restore a new sense of wellness. \nThis is a space to reclaim your sense of vitality at the very cellular level. You will discover cellular breathing which is a movement pattern that integrates the entire physical body\, promoting cellular renewal. Cultivate Cellular Awareness through inner listening and connecting with the intelligence of your cells. And you will embrace Rest as an act of Resistance that honours where you are in your journey as a vital component of healing and self-care. \nWho is this for? This workshop is for: Individuals seeking a gentle and embodied approach to healing. SUMMARY:Somatic Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]\n	Book workshop\n	\n	[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]Somatic Movement Exploration: \nNovember and December Workshops have the same theme \nThe Mind of the Nervous System – Opportunities for communication and repatterning\nConcession prices are available – please write in to info@yogapoint.co.uk \n\nJoin Suhad for a deeply supportive somatic workshop series dedicated to exploring the mind of the Nervous system; as a system of communication and sensitivity that carries with it opportunities to re-pattern and reclaim our original Blueprint the true self. \nWe begin by cultivating a quality of presence of both our Nervous System and the fluid systems\, as they are fundamental means by which the body-mind is organised to function as one individual whole. The nervous system is our recording system—it registers new sensations and directs responses based on memory and perception. \nAn essential quality of the nervous system is sensitivity. We will explore how to embody this sensitivity by physically grounding awareness into its tissues\, cells and nerves. We will embody an ongoing process of activity\, perception\, and response that is ever-present\, reflecting our continuously changing interaction with the inner and outer environment. \nIn these series we will explore what the imprints of life events on our body present themselves. We will approach the profound idea that the true self is akin to a blueprint\, unique to who you are. As we navigate life\, we acquire imprints. Relationships and experiences influence and shape this blueprint: some imprints enhance\, while others occlude and distort its expression. This can leave us feeling that parts of our creativity\, expression\, and vitality are inaccessible. \nAs we explore our different states of being through the lens of the nervous system\, we will examine the deep history held within our physical selves—the reflexes hardwired before conscious thought—we trace how the ending of one reflex pattern is often the first\, truest beginning of you. These two workshops over November and December will invite you to learn how to support yourself while meeting these imprints that limit your expression and re-pattern habitual responses recorded by the nervous system. \nOur goal is to cultivate the nervous system flexibility needed to move easily between receptive and expressive modes\, helping to clarify and potentiate the expression of your true blueprint \nBoth workshops are an opportunity to explore your Soma (the body experienced from within) and deepen your understanding of your essential needs. Join Suhad to explore these themes in a safe and supportive space to support the shift from fragmentation to integration and well-being. \n\nWho is this for? \n \nThese workshops are accessible to all bodies: individuals seeking to deepen their connection with their body’s innate wisdom.  Individuals seeking a gentle and embodied approach to movement and healing. Those experiencing chronic health conditions\, autoimmune disorders\, or Long Covid. Anyone who finds traditional yoga practices challenging or inaccessible. \nSuhad’s intention is to provide a safe and supportive space for you to reconnect with your body’s natural capacity for healing and restore balance at all levels.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Classical Yoga Philosophy: The Yogasūtra of Patañjali
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]\n	Book here\n	\n	[vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]Classical Yoga Philosophy: The Yogasūtra of Patañjali \nJoin us for a special philosophy workshop designed for dedicated yoga practitioners and teachers who are eager to deepen their understanding of yoga beyond the mat. Led by renowned yoga scholar Dr. Seth Powell\, together we will engage in a close reading and study of one of yoga’s most ancient\, important\, and mis-understood scriptures. \nThe Yogasūtra of Patañjali\, written some 1\,500 years ago\, is the earliest extant systematization of Yoga philosophy and practice. Rendered into 195 short\, dense\, Sanskrit “threads” or sūtras\, the Yogasūtra is the root text for the Yoga philosophical tradition. It is a profound treatise on the nature of the human condition which examines: the cognitive mechanics and psychology of the mind-body\, the cause of human suffering\, and offers a map of psychophysical practices that can be cultivated in order to obtain complete spiritual freedom or liberation. \nIn this workshop\, designed for both beginners and long-time students alike\, we will focus on the first and second chapters (pāda)\, which treat the definition of yoga\, the nature of the mind\, the cause of suffering and its cure: a detailed “eight-limbed” (aṣṭāṅga) system of yogic practices. \nParticipants will leave with a deeper understanding of the history\, theory\, and practice of yoga as outlined in Patañjali’s Yogasūtra–and a better sense of how the yoga we are doing today relates (or not) to this ancient Indian philosophy.  \nDr. Seth Powell is a scholar of Indian religions\, Sanskrit\, and yoga traditions\, who earned his PhD in South Asian Religions at Harvard University. He is the founder and director of Yogic Studies—a leading online educational platform for Yoga and South Asian Studies. His dissertation comprised a critical edition\, translation\, and detailed study of a 15th-century Sanskrit yoga text from south India known as the Śivayogapradīpikā—which uniquely combines yoga\, ritual\, and devotion. Seth also works on the visual and material culture of yoga in premodern India\, uncovering yoga’s past through temple sculptures. He has published extensively on the history of yoga and presents his research regularly at international conferences.  \nAs an educator\, Seth is passionate about sharing the latest academic research on yoga’s vast history and philosophies and is gifted in his ability to present the ancient teachings of yoga clearly in an accessible\, light-hearted\, and inspiring manner—while maintaining a rigor and sensitivity to traditional Indian knowledge systems. In addition to teaching online\, he leads workshops and retreats around the world\, including annual educational pilgrimages to India. He is also the host of The Yogic Studies Podcast.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
